As a Wedding Planner, I’ve seen it all, from wardrobe malfunctions to last-minute hiccups that could have easily been avoided with the right preparation. That’s why I always advise brides to create an SOS kit for their big day. It’s the little things that can make a big difference in the smooth running of your wedding, and having a well-stocked kit can save you (and your wedding party) from unnecessary stress.

If you hire me as your Wedding Planner, you won't have to worry about a thing as I always bring my own SOS kit on the day but if you need some guidance as to what you should include in yours, take a look below.

So, what exactly should go in your SOS kit? Here’s my checklist to make sure you’re fully prepared for any wedding day emergency that might come your way!

Bobby Pins and Hair Accessories

You’ve spent hours on your hair, and the last thing you want is for it to fall flat or get messy. If your Hair Artist can provide bobby pins etc. these will come in handy if your updo starts to unravel or if your veil shifts out of place during the ceremony. (Tip: Have one of your Bridal Party on Hair & Makeup duty!)

Makeup Touch-Up Kit

You’ll of course want to look your best all day long, and touch-ups are a must. A mini makeup kit is essential for keeping you fresh-faced throughout the event. Some Makeup Artists will provide this as part of their service so it’s always worth asking the question. The kit can include:

  • Foundation (or powder) to touch up any shine

  • Lipstick or gloss (it’s easy to reapply between photos or after a drink)

  • Blush for a quick refresher

  • Concealer for any blemishes or dark circles that pop up

  • Setting spray to lock everything in place

  • And don’t forget mattifying sheets if you have oily skin!

Stain Remover

Whether it’s a little red wine during your reception toast or makeup mishaps, a stain remover pen or white chalk can be a lifesaver. Just make sure it's one that's safe for your wedding dress fabric, and you’ll be good to go!

Plasters

If you haven’t had much chance to wear in your heels, you might also want to include blister plasters in case your heels rub on the day.

Sewing Kit

No one wants to deal with a wardrobe malfunction on their wedding day, but accidents can happen. A sewing kit with thread that matches your dress colour, a needle, and scissors can come in handy in case of a small tear or loose button. It’s a small fix that can prevent bigger issues from ruining your day. (Again, if you can designate a Bridesmaid for example to carry this with them, that is one less thing for you to worry about).

Tissues

Tissues are a must for any emotional moments, from your walk down the aisle to that sweet first kiss. Pack plenty of soft tissues for blotting away happy tears.

Extra Wedding Day essentials

If something goes wrong, you’ll want to have backups of some key items:

  • Nail polish (in case of chipping)

  • Deodorant for staying fresh

  • A small mirror for last-minute touch-ups

Backup Flats or Comfortable Shoes

You’re going to want to dance the night away, but those gorgeous heels might start to hurt. Bring a pair of comfortable shoes to change into once the ceremony is over or after the first dance. This will save your feet and let you enjoy your celebration.

An SOS kit is a small investment for peace of mind on your wedding day. By having all these essential items in one place, you'll be able to handle any little mishap that comes your way with ease. No matter how prepared you are, life will throw a few surprises your way, but with the right kit, you’ll be ready for anything.
